Transshipment is the transfer of cargo from one means of transport to another en route to its destination – for example from a large ocean-going container vessel onto a feeder vessel at a hub port. Transshipment enables efficient liner networks and the connection of smaller ports, but lengthens transit time and increases handling risk.
