Malaysia is one of Southeast Asia’s emerging economies, having developed from a raw-material supplier into a trading partner with a diversified economic structure. Its strategic position on the Strait of Malacca makes it important for logistics routes serving the wider region.

Malaysia: your freight forwarder for imports & exports
Malaysia is an important EU trading partner in Southeast Asia and a central gateway for trade between Europe and the ASEAN region. Trade between Germany, Europe and Malaysia includes electronics, semiconductors and electrical equipment as well as machinery, chemicals and palm oil. As an experienced freight forwarder, we support your imports and exports on this route with coordinated door-to-door service.
Transport routes to Malaysia
- Sea freight: The main seaports include Port Klang, the country’s largest port near Kuala Lumpur, and Tanjung Pelepas in the south. Depending on the route and transshipment arrangements, transit from Northern Europe is approximately four to five weeks. We organise FCL and LCL shipments according to your requirements.
- Air freight: For urgent or high-value shipments, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is a principal air-cargo gateway, with connections that can take a few days depending on the selected service.
- Multimodal: On request, we combine sea and air freight with truck collection and onward transport to the final consignee.
Customs & documents
Correct customs clearance is essential for shipments to and from Malaysia. Documents may include a commercial invoice, packing list and, depending on the goods, certificates of origin or licences. The EU and Malaysia resumed free trade negotiations in 2025; a negotiated future agreement must not be treated as an automatic current tariff preference. Malaysia and the EFTA states signed a separate economic partnership agreement in 2025, but any preference depends on its applicable entry-into-force arrangements and origin rules and does not automatically apply to EU goods. We check the tariff and any available preference for the actual product and manage the customs process.
Whether your shipment contains electronics, machinery or consumer goods, SATS Group is your experienced partner for the Malaysia route. From collection through sea freight and air freight to customs clearance, our coordinated service provides transparent planning and personal support.
