Your partner for imports and exports by air and sea freight: Israel
Israel lies between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. Established as a state after the Second World War, it developed into a dynamic economy in the Middle East. Its businesses are closely connected with international trade, and exports extend well beyond the country’s earlier emphasis on agricultural products.
Sea, Air, Transport & Service has a partner presence in Tel Aviv, a central location for planning and organising logistics. Ben Gurion Airport is an important nearby transport hub. Tel Aviv also lies between Haifa and Ashdod, the country’s two main seaports. Eilat in the south is connected by road, although actual journey times depend on conditions. The original profile described a north–south length of 470 km and a width ranging from 15 km to 135 km, illustrating the relatively short geographical distances involved. Current routing and access must nevertheless be checked for each shipment.

Israel’s economy: historical background and 2015 figures

GDP was almost US$297 billion in 2015, equivalent to US$35,343 per person, with growth of 2.6%. At the time, the profile forecast growth of 2.8% for 2016 and 3% for 2017; these are historical forecasts, not current projections. The profile highlighted offshore gas resources and water scarcity, and reported that desalination supplied around 70% of drinking water at that time. These figures describe the older economic profile rather than today’s market conditions.
Regional geopolitical and security conditions remain relevant to trade and transport planning. The source discussed the conflict in Syria, unresolved Israeli–Palestinian issues and difficult relations with neighbouring states, and the resulting importance of security expenditure. Specific transport access, schedules and security requirements require a current operational assessment.
The historical trade profile described an export-oriented economy closely connected with the EU and Europe. It listed the United States, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Belgium and China among export destinations, with non-metallic minerals, chemicals, electronics and machinery among export goods. Listed import suppliers included the United States, China, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium. Imports included petroleum, chemicals, electronics, vehicles and automotive parts.

Israel: your freight forwarder for imports & exports
Israel is an important trading partner in the eastern Mediterranean, and Germany is one of its principal economic partners. Trade between Germany/the EU and Israel includes machinery, vehicles, chemical and plastic products, and measurement and control equipment. In the opposite direction, Israeli high-tech products, electronics, precision instruments and pharmaceuticals are important. SATS Group organises coordinated transport chains in both directions on this route.
Transport routes to Israel
- Sea freight: The main seaports include Ashdod and Haifa, major gateways for container traffic. Depending on the route and schedule, the sea passage from Northern Europe is approximately two to three weeks; current services and access must be confirmed.
- Air freight: For time-critical and high-value shipments, Ben Gurion Airport (TLV), near Tel Aviv, is the country’s principal air-cargo gateway.
- Multimodal: On request, we combine sea or air freight with truck collection and onward transport into a coordinated solution, including delivery to the receiving ramp.
Customs and documents
The EU and Israel have an association and free trade agreement that can allow duty-free or reduced-duty imports when the applicable origin requirements are met. Preference may be supported by a movement certificate EUR.1 or an origin declaration on a commercial document, subject to the relevant conditions. For smooth customs clearance of imports and exports, prepare the commercial invoice, packing list and any required preference documentation carefully. We manage the customs process and advise on the correct use of preferences. Preferential origin and territorial eligibility must be checked for the actual goods.
Whether you need to ship individual containers or complex project cargo, SATS Group is an experienced partner for the Israel route, supporting your shipment from collection to final delivery, subject to the current legal and operational requirements.
